Child Support

Nevada believes that both parents are responsible for paying for the expenses incurred in raising children. As such, courts will award support whether there is one primary custodial parent or there is joint custody between the parents.

NRS 125B.070 sets child support at 18% for one child; 25% for two children; 29% for three children; 31% for four children; and an additional 2% for each child more. However, there are a multitude of factors that play a part in the setting of the final child support. To ensure that a fair child support award is made, it is important to seek quality legal representation with an eye for detail. At Accolade Law, you will find that kind of representation.

Alimony is payment from one spouse to another in a divorce, as ordered by the Court. Whether you believe that you should be paid alimony or you are concerned that you may have to pay alimony in a divorce, you need a good attorney to represent your interests. There are often many factors that go into the calculation, such as:

• The receiving spouse’s career prior to marriage;
• Length of marriage;
• The receiving spouse’s education during the marriage;
• The receiving spouse’s marketability;
• The receiving spouse’s ability to support him/herself;
• Whether the receiving spouse stayed at home with the children;
• The receiving spouse’s award besides child support and alimony; and
• The earning disparity between the parties and future earning disparity

With alimony, the devil is in the details. To ensure that alimony is handled fairly, be sure to retain a quality law firm, like Accolade Law. Have questions? Please contact us for your free consultation.

The process for adoption is often complex and stressful.  Nevada law requirements can often be difficult on the families considering adoption. A qualified attorney can ease much of the difficulty related to the process.

Adoptions of children who are not related to the proposed parents by blood have more requirements than adoptions of an existing relative or a step-child. Such adoptions require that adoption agencies, in cooperation with attorneys, work with parties to ensure the proper procedures are followed.

Adoption of blood relatives or step children is an easier process so long as the relinquishing biological parent consents to the adoption. Should that parent not consent, the petitioning parent must seek a termination of the other parent’s parental rights.
